Sale Between Parties
You may be contemplating selling jewellery to a friend or relation and need a
reference point from which to work out a sale price.
This valuation is designed to help the seller alone or two or more people who wish to sell and
buy an item or items of jewellery between themselves. For this valuation to be of help it
is customary for the parties involved to agree to be guided by an expert who has
no relationship to the people concerned and no interest in the outcome over and
above the fee charged. What is finally paid is, of course, up to you but this valuation will provide a guide to a reasonable price, fair to
all sides.
How its done
The value will be placed somewhere midway between
wholesale cost and full retail price but will not include VAT. As with insurance valuation the condition
and quality of the item will play an important part, as will its saleability. A
full description is provided including calculated stone weights as an aid to
identification.
Reasonable wear and tear will not be referred to but serious defects will be
identified and their effect on value factored in.
